I know it's been awhile, but here we are again?
We went to Brussels, Belgium to see the Grand Place, also known as - The finest square in Europe! It is filled with beautiful 16th and 17th century stone buildings, which replaced the wooden ones dating back to the 12th century. These structures represent the municipal and aristocratic powers and feature the old guild houses of the craftsman of that time. The day we were there, they were dismantling the annual flower carpet that adorns the center of the square.
A few blocks down the street is the famous "Manneken Pis", designed in 1388 it has become the most representative and loved symbol of Brussels. It is a bronze statue under two feet tall of a naked boy urinating into the basin of a fountain. It originally served as the means by which many people received water in that part of town. In fact, King Louie the 14th of France was so amused by this statue, that he ordered clothes be made for it. Many outfits have been crafted for the boy over the centuries and can be seen in the town museum. There is even an Elvis outfit!
